Pre operative evaluation NYC
Recent Patient Comments
I just wanted to share how well I was treated at Walk In Clinic of New York when it came to my pre-surgical clearance appointment. I am not exactly in the greatest shape and I needed the go-ahead for a small operation. While I was there, I was treated with both dignity and respect. The staff at the clinic really seem to care about what they are doing—and the doctor is great! Thanks again for the hard work and affordable pricing!

What is pre operative medical evaluation?
Pre-surgery medical clearance is an evaluation done by a doctor. There are two reasons to have a medical clearance before a surgery:
- To ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo the surgery
- To detect any possible undiagnosed healthy conditions
A medical clearance exam is routinely done before any major surgery, however, when a surgery requires anesthesia, it is especially important to have a thorough examination.
What does medical clearance involve?
The evaluation includes a general physical examination, health questionnaire, an ECG, blood work and a consultation. Questions about your health may include your capacity to do exercise, the medications, vitamins and supplements you take, your alcohol use, and if you are a smoker. If you are sexually active and a woman, usually a pregnancy test will be administered to be safe. An ECG is an electrocardiogram, a noninvasive test of your heart’s health. Little patches are attached to the skin and you lay down and remain still during the test. The blood work does require a needle so that you can give a blood sample, but includes a comprehensive look at your health: complete blood count, tests of your renal function, electrolytes, blood glucose, liver function tests and clotting abilities.
