I was mortified that I had to see a doctor about a bladder infection, but Dr. F and his staff made me wonder why I had been. Everyone is so cool at this clinic and they really seem to care about you. I would go there to receive treatment for any illness at all. Clean, spacious, kind and affordable. I ask you: What more can you ask for in a doctor’s office?!

FAQs

What is a urinary tract infection (UTI)?

Urinary tract infections develop as a result of bacteria present in the urinary system, which is comprised of the urethra, bladder, and kidneys. Most UTIs result from bladder infections. Although urinary tract infections are not serious when treated, they can be very painful. Infections of the urinary tract are very common and account for millions of doctor visits per year. Since women have a shorter urinary tract, they are more vulnerable to UTIs than men. Women will experience approximately one UTI in her lifetime, while some experience several infections.

What causes UTIs?

Urinary tract infections are caused when bacteria, usually from your digestive system, invades your urethra (tube that carries urine from the bladder).  The most common cause for UTIs result from bacteria called Escherichia coli (E. coli), which is present in the colon. When this or any other bacteria enters your urinary tract, the infection is called urethritis. When bacteria move to the bladder, it’s called a bladder infection. If infection goes untreated, it develops into a kidney infection, which unlike a UTI, it is very serious. Other causes of UTIs result from: wiping with a back and front motion after a bowel movement (spreads E.coli from the rectum to the urethra), for women frequent sexual intercourse because bacteria can be easily thrust into the urethra, not drinking enough fluids, being pregnant, or having diabetes.

What are the symptoms of a UTI?

Although not everyone may experience symptoms, those that do have a urinary tract infection can easily spot some symptoms, as they are very distinguishable. These symptoms consist of: frequent urge to urinate, but little urine is secreted, pain or burning sensation while urinating, and cloudy, smelly, or bloody urine. If you feel lower back or abdomen pain, nausea, vomiting, chills, or dizziness, it means that the infection has moved from the urethra or bladder to the kidneys. This is very serious and requires immediate treatment.  Regardless of how many or how severe the symptoms are, you can seek UTI treatment at the Walk-in Clinic NYC before the infection spreads, leaving you with permanent kidney damage.

How does the Walk-in Clinic of New York City diagnose UTIs?

When you to come to the Urgent care of New York City, our doctor will begin with an evaluation of your medical history and current symptoms. If your symptoms clearly indicate a urinary tract infection and you have no complicated history of UTIs, then medication will be prescribed to treat the infection. When symptoms do no clearly indicate that you have a urinary tract infection, our doctor will ask you to provide us with a clean urine sample, followed by a dipstick test, which will give us immediate results. When the dipstick test yields abnormal results or if you have a complicated history of UTIs, then a urine sample will be sent to our participating laboratory for a thorough urinalysis, that will determine which bacteria is present and appropriate antibiotic can be given to fight such bacteria.

Why should I go to the Walk-in Clinic of Manhattan for a UTI?

The Walk in Clinic NYC provides medical health care that extends beyond your initial office visit. Our walk-in clinic participates with all major US insurance carriers. For those that do no have insurance, you can receive a full visit for a $98 fee. A full office visit will consist of a thorough consultation with our board-certified doctor, evaluation of medical history, assessment of your current symptoms, necessary prescriptions, and even a dipstick test when necessary. If it is determined that you need a urinalysis to achieve complete diagnosis for your UTI, then an additional $30 will be added to your initial fee in order to send your urine sample to our participating laboratory. We strive to help our patients in their UTI treatment; therefore our walk-in clinic doctor does not consider the visit done after you leave our office. Proper follow-ups will be maintained between you and our doctor in order to determine success of the antibiotics in your treatment. When your symptoms do no go away with the antibiotics within a week, our doctor will prescribe you additional medication to fully resolve the infection at no further cost. We take into consideration that as a result of living in New York City, our patients lead very busy lives and might not have flexible schedules, so we offer same-day/next-day, evening hours, and even walk in visits most days of the week, including Saturdays.
